You are a totem pole of every person you have ever been ~ Megan Falley ( one of Kate’s all-time favourite poets)

You are the best thing that has ever happened to you ~ a line from Andrea Gibson’s (1975 - 2025) poem, Boomerang Valentine (one of Kate’s other most beloved poets)

Kate (she/her) is a clinical social worker and a certified Neuropsychotherapy practitioner. She has well over 25 years’ experience working with adults who have experienced the broad impacts of trauma and mental illness. She has worked extensively across mental health and trauma service settings, in both the public and private sector. She is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AASW), meaning she is accredited by the federal government as an allied health Medicare provider.

Kate began her career working in a broad range of NSW Health mental health clinical settings. Here, she worked with individuals, groups and families who had experienced significant impacts of mental illness, substance abuse and childhood adversity. Within her first decade in clinical practice, her interest in working with people who had experienced complex trauma grew. She then developed specialist skills, knowledge and experience in working with individuals who had experienced recent sexual assault and/or earlier-life sexual, emotional and physical abuse, via counselling and management roles within a trauma-specialised NSW Health service. Kate later gained extensive and invaluable knowledge and experience in understanding broad individual and systemic responses to trauma, working as a senior counsellor for the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Kate has worked in private practice since 2017. She was previously located at the Birchtree Centre. Since January 2024, she has been based in a trauma-focused practice in Enmore with her colleagues, Beata and Rachel. The practice is a welcoming and inclusive space for LGBTIQ+ clients.

The practice is easily accessible by bus, and Newtown station is a five minute walk. There is ample untimed street parking. She also offers therapy and supervision sessions via Telehealth.

Kate acknowledges the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which she lives and works. She recognises the continuing connection to land, water and community for all First Nations people. Kate acknowledges all Traditional Custodians of Country throughout this continent, honouring their enduring sovereignty.

Kate pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging and wishes to highlight her respects to Brotherboys, Sistergirls, trans mob and First Nations LGBTQ+ people.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
